2025 Contemporary Art Curator Magazine - Oksana Salminen Art Review
In an era of conceptual abstraction and politically charged provocations, there exists a rare and luminous voice that paints not for spectacle but for serenity, who, during the world’s chaos, chooses beauty as a form of resistance. That voice is Oksana Salminen, an award-winning contemporary painter whose brush speaks the gentle, arresting language of the sea, of memory, of joy, and deeply personal hope.
Hailing from the dual heartlands of Finland and Estonia, Salminen lives and creates between two cultures, two coastlines, two visions of Northern beauty. Her work is not merely admired; it is collected, exhibited, and quietly celebrated across Europe and the United States in galleries in Italy, Germany, Spain, the UK, and far beyond. And it is little wonder why. For what she brings to the contemporary art world is not just technical finesse and chromatic brilliance, but an emotional honesty that disarms....Read the full Art Review

2025 Contemporary Art Curator Magazine - Interview with Oksana Salminen
Your work often reflects the serene beauty of seascapes and landscapes from Estonia and Finland, as well as an underlying positivity. How do you reconcile painting tranquil scenes with the global issues that you acknowledge, like war and injustice? How does this tension shape your artistic vision?
Global issues affect us all and cause concern for me as well. However, it's impossible to be perpetually stressed or consumed by problems, as this can seriously harm our mental health. In the darkest times, having a glimmer of hope is crucial. There should always be a place to feel calm and safe, at least for some rest. 2024 The Holy Art Gallery - Artist in Conversation: Oksana Salminen, London, UK
What initially inspired you to become an artist, and how did you develop your unique style?
I grew up in a family that loved art. From a very early age, my parents took me to the museums they visited, and we had a lot of art books at home, which I loved to look at when I was a little girl. Later, at 10, I participated in an art contest at school and was one of the winners. It inspired me to attend art school, where I studied fine art and other visual arts for four years.
In terms of subject matter, what themes or motifs do you frequently explore in your work, and what draws you to these topics?
My father was a sea captain, so my childhood was also connected with the sea. The motifs of the sea, seascapes, and waterscapes are very close to me and occupy a prominent place in my work....Read the full Interview
